Planning for success

Most organisations and businesses these days have plans of some kind, but quite often after spending time in putting plans together, nothing much becomes of them and they are left to get dusty on shelves or abandoned at the bottom of a drawer.

The reasons for this are usually quite simple and fall in either one of two categories or frequently both:

• The goals set have been inappropriately stated and have not taken on board the starting point for the organisation concerned

• There hasn’t been a sufficient buy in of the plan by everyone in the organisation and consequently there is no culture of accountability being nurtured
